Un "rocker" ivoirien? Pourquoi pas. En tout cas, le Nord a reçu Kutchala Sutchi à bras ouverts durant sa tournée, qui était organisée par l'Union nationale des artistes de Côte d'Ivoire dans le but de promouvoir la cause de l'unité nationale.
"J'étais un peu nerveux à l'idée de me rendre en territoire rebelle", confie Kutchala Sutchi à la BBC, "mais aussitôt que j'ai vu les gens danser sur ma musique, mon trac a disparu."

L'artiste se dit ravi de l'accueil qui lui a été réservé: "certains dirigeants rebelles m'appellent encore pour me demander de retourner dans le Nord pour une nouvelle tournée".
L'un d'eux, Fofié Kouakou, qui contrôle la ville de Korhogo, a particulièrement insisté.
Ce chef rebelle est sous le coup de sanctions de l'O.N.U. qui l'accuse de violations des droits de l'homme, mais il a créé un centre culturel dans le cadre de ses efforts pour redorer son image.
Reste un autre obstacle à surmonter: le rock a beau être un descendant de rythmes africains, ce genre de musique ne suscite généralement pas un intérêt énorme en Côte d'Ivoire.
"Si je jouais du rock dans mon bar, les clients se révolteraient", explique Innocent, patron du bar "Le Doux maquis" à Abidjan.
Dans son établissement, on entend plutôt du zouglou, du rhythm and blues et du reggae.

"Le toubab"
Le rock passe pour être une musique de style plutôt européen, ou occidental.
C'est pour cela que Kutchala Sutchi est surnommé "le toubab" (le blanc).
Mais il en faudrait bien plus pour le décourager.
"Cette musique, je la sens dans mon âme, je sens ses rythmes", explique-t-il, "mon inspiration, c'est Roger Daltrey, les Who, aussi Metallica et les Sex Pistols".
Et l'homme vise loin.
"J'estime que je n'aurai rien réussi tant que je ne me serai pas produit dans le stade de Wembley."
Encore le Nord. Mais de Londres, cette fois.

Totara Male Pollen Cones [x stereo]

New Zealand Totara is a Podocarp tree, with separate sexes. The male tree has pollen cones, which develop in Spring (October) at the ends of the old stems. New leaves, with a lighter green colour develop from the tips of the stems, just beyond the cones. New cones are green, but turn brown as they open and release pollen. All this can be seen in 3D on this image, which is magnified 10 times on a Zalman 3D monitor, at the original size.
( Catkins are similar structures to pollen cones, but occur on some male flowering plants. Podocarps are an early form of pine and precede flowering plants in evolution. )
